Status on 19 October 2026: The Ministry of Education issued the admission policy for government secondary schools for 2027 on 13 October 2026. Application dates and lottery dates have not been announced yet. The policy for private schools is expected to be published soon.
Parents and students can use the weeks before the notice to prepare. This guide explains what the 2027 policy says about class 1 and about classes 2 to 9, and what to get ready.
Class 1: digital lottery
- Students are selected by a digital lottery. No admission test may be held for class 1.
- The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education runs the lottery centrally.
- A student can list up to five schools in order of preference. Choosing both shifts of a double-shift school counts as two choices.
- More than one application to the same school cancels all applications.
- A waiting list equal to the number of vacant seats is prepared. If a selected student does not take admission in time, students on the list are admitted in order.
- The selected list is published on the school website and notice board. No student outside the list can be admitted.
Classes 2 to 9: written test
For vacant seats in classes 2 to 9, students are selected through a written test. The marks and subjects for each class are set in the policy. We will add them here after checking them against the official policy text.
Age and documents
- For class 1, the age on 1 January 2027 must be at least 5 years and at most 7 years.
- An attested copy of the online birth registration certificate must be submitted to prove age.
- Students with special needs may be allowed up to five additional years of age relief.
Application and fees
- Application, fee payment and result publication are all done online through the designated software.
- The maximum application fee is Tk 110 for class 1 and Tk 250 for classes 2 to 9.
- The start date, closing date and lottery date will be given in the admission notice.
What to prepare now
- Check that the child meets the age rule for the class on 1 January 2027.
- Keep the online birth registration certificate ready and make sure its details are correct.
- Make a list of up to five schools in order of preference, and check each school’s catchment and shift.
- Follow the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and your preferred schools for the notice.
